Are All Lift Kits Created Equal?
A Guide To Quality Lift Kits
So you’re going to up-fit a truck or jeep for your dealership’s lot. You’ve selected premium wheels, a great set of tires and all the accessories that you know your customers love. The only thing left to choose is the suspension lift you need for the vehicle. Typically, you’re only given the choice between different lift heights - but do you know what you’re really getting?
When it comes to suspension systems, quality matters. If your truck is fitted with a mystery kit, or a system toted as a “value kit”, the integrity of your truck could be compromised. The most important elements of a suspension system are the quality of its components & design, the amount of testing it has gone through, and it warranty. While kits on the cheaper end of the scale save you money on the front end, they often react poorly and sometimes fail in compromised positions. If this kit’s warranty is sub par, then the customer who bought your truck may be stuck with underperforming or broken vehicle and place the blame on you.
At Southern Off-Road Specialists, we pride ourselves in only using top of the line suspension systems. These kits are built to last, real-world tested, FMVSS compliant and protected by killer warranties. Here’s who we use:
Founded in 1970’s by truck/jeep enthusiasts, Superlift's mission is “…to help our Customers realize their vision of creating an exciting new look, feel, and performance level for their rides”. Superlift's suspension systems are careful designed using CAD software with specs directly from the OEM. This means Superlift is often early to the market for new products - for example, Superlift had the first 6" lift system for an IFS vehicle. These designs have won Superlift numerous awards at SEMA and other trade events throughout the years. Best of all, Superlift suspension systems are built in the USA, and are covered by a lifetime warranty.
BDS Suspension was founded in 1996 to “create a suspension company that truly had the best interest of the off road consumer as its' foundation.” Through a network of regional dealers, BDS provide fair and consistent pricing on all of their products. This means that when you purchase BDS parts for your dealer's vehicle through SORS, a BDS certified dealer, you know you're getting the best prices. BDS boasts a 'No Fine Print' warranty, meaning that if buyer of your vehicle breaks a BDS part, it will get replaced with no questions asked. BDS kits are made in North America, and the company never advertises a product before it's actually available, so you know they have the parts you need in stock.
Founded 1992 to develop high-quality, durable suspension systems for on & off-road enthusiasts, Pro Comp suspension systems are simple, effective and affordable. There is lifetime warranty on Pro Comp parts, and the company offers what it calls the 'Lift Shield' Powertrain Warranty. This 5 year/60,000 mile warranty covers the cost of parts & repairs to the vehicles engine, transmission, transfer case and/or axles and gears on any vehicle fitted with an applicable Pro Comp kit.
For every package we put onto a vehicle, we choose the best the industry has to offer. No singular suspension company can make the best lift kit in every category, but with these three companies we can cover 95% of customers' desired suspension applications. With a relatively small price gap between bottom and top of the line suspension systems, it’s worth it to know that the truck your dealership builds will be a true performer, and is covered against any issues. And if the manufacturers warranties weren't enough, SORS promises a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on all install work, for extra measure.
